Lexus svela i piani per il futuro, presentando al Salone di Detroit la nuova RX a propulsione ibrida. Non si tratta di una semplice Concept, concepita a dimostrazione del potenziale tecnologico del Costruttore, ma di una vera e propria novità che sarà lanciata sul mercato americano tra due anni.
La vera novità è l’innovativo sistema Hybrid Synergy Drive, che basa il suo funzionamento sull’associazione delle potenzialità dei propulsori a benzina con quelle dei motori elettrici.

"Grazie alla nuova tecnologia H.S.D. – parla Karl Schlicht, presidente di Lexus UK - la nuova RX ottiene dal suo propulsore V6 la potenza e la coppia di un motore V8 di maggiore cilindrata, registrando consumi da piccola utilitaria”.
L’Hybrid Synergy Drive è composto da due unità elettriche, di cui una collocata frontalmente e l’altra posteriormente, ed V6 “tradizionale” collocato anch’esso anteriormente. La disposizione dei propulsori non è casuale ma studiata per offrire alla RX, da buona SUV, una trazione di tipo integrale.

Motori elettrici potenti ed innovativi, con la caratteristica di lavorare con voltaggi quasi doppi rispetto ai sistemi ibridi “tradizionali” visti fino ad oggi. Merito di una grande efficienza tecnica, che non consente solo potenze specifiche più elevate, ma anche consumi energetici più contenuti.
Lexus definisce l’H.S.D. “modulare”: è possibile, infatti, combinare svariati tipi di propulsore adattando, in base alle caratteristiche delle vetture su cui viene installato, esigenze di maggiori potenze o di risparmio energetico.

Brutte notizie per chi fosse propenso all’acquisto di questa innovativa RX nel nostro continente: dai vertici della Casa, purtroppo, fanno sapere di non avere piani di commercializzazione per il mercato europeo.


 
Lexus today unveiled plans to offer a revolutionary new hybrid powertrain in future vehicles. This hybrid system will be offered in the new Lexus RX four-wheel drive model and will arrive on the North American market in about two years.
This innovative petrol/electric hybrid technology, called Hybrid Synergy Drive, offers benefits far beyond today's hybrid vehicles. While the strengths of current hybrid systems include low emissions and high fuel economy, this new hybrid technology adds the benefit of outstanding performance.

"The RX with Hybrid Synergy Drive has a V6 engine with the performance, power and torque of a V8 yet delivers the fuel economy of a small car while producing a fraction of the emissions of standard SUVs," explained Lexus GB Director, Karl Schlicht.
The Hybrid Synergy Drive operates with front and rear electric motors and a front internal combustion engine. The system in the RX operates at nearly double the voltage of existing hybrid systems and generates more power with high efficiency, dramatically cutting fuel consumption and emissions.

In addition, the front and rear electric drive provides the benefits of all-wheel drive in a lighter and more compact package. The system is highly modular so it is extremely flexible. Different size motors and engines can be combined to favour either fuel economy or power…or both. This means the Hybrid Synergy Drive can be easily adapted to a broad range of vehicles.

The announcement was made in the US, the biggest market for Lexus, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. There was no announcement on the likely introduction of the new Hybrid Synergy Drive to the European market.
