Mitsubishi nuovo Pajero – Test Drive

Mitsubishi new Pajero – Test Drive The legend is back…and it is even cheaper! Barcelona – The first Japanese sedan with integral traction was Mitsubishi Px33, launched in 1936. Seventy years later, the fourth Pajero’s generation is coming: a true and really aggressive off-road with really extreme performances. THE LEGEND IS BACK… Therefore, here is the legend again, as confirmed by the preatty hard test drive hich was done during the Rally of Catalunya. Pajero does not follow SUV, otherwise it challenges them all, thanks to its standard Ebac Engine Brakes Assist Control. Mitsubishi prefer an agile Pajero capable of carrying off among bumps, breathless slopes, deeps and overhangings rocks, while it renounces to renew its design, because Pajero’s fans want it like that. The result is an improved Pajero, still faithful to itself, anyway with a lower price. The new Mitsubishi Pajero is going to be sold into different versions: two kinds of bodyworks (three-doors metal and five seats and five-doors and seven seats wagon) two engines, three different liveries (Invite, Intense, Instyle), and three interiors. The new entry-level version is going to be the 3-doors diesel 3.2-litres Euro 4 Invite. In the standard set up, Pajero is definately well equipped. Firstly, it features common rail together with a diesel engine. New Pajero also features the rear differential lock, post, side and curtain airbags, 17” alloy wheels, MP3 player together with the radio. UNMISTAKABLE VALUES Mitsubishi choice is very clear: Pajero is always an off-road, as a sign of a getting back to the style of the second generation (1979). As a matter of fact Mitsubishi marks that this is not a revolution, otherwise it is an evolution. New Pajero features a high and flat windshield (it is 5,3 mm thick), with a classical front shape, and the fifth wheel at the exterior. The Marketing strategy (70% Pajero buyers still buy it again) suggests some personalizations for the European market only. Noise and vibrations are reduced: beyond the thicker windscreen, even interior’s covering was improved, to make the cab more comfortable. In this way, noise caused by engine decreased of 15% . In addition, in Pajero we find the new audio Rockford Acoustic Design system, specifically designed for Pajero together with Rockford Corporation. Moreover, AM/FM tuner, 6-records CD charger, MD player and it also supports MP3 devices. For the first time inside an original Mitsubishi model, there is also an home theater 5.1 system, which supports Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround technology. The modern system offers offers to the driver the possibility of controlling the sound, even for a global sorround effect. In its interior, new Pajero was re-designed with an elegant bridge and a more elegant instrument panel. TWO ENGINES A new 3.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel with common rail direct fuel injection, which offers an output of 160 hp. Moreover, even speed has improved, as it has gone from 170 to 177 Km/h, but keeping at the same time lower consumptions: from 10,5 to 9.3 liters for 100 Km. In the authomatic gear-box version, new Pajero also gets improved of 10 hp 8 Nm of torque, necessary to balance the lost of aggressivity caused by the anti-particolato filter. The fuel engine is the traditional V6: in its 3.5 litres GDI of 202 hp, the Japanese car manufacturer has chosena last generation 3.8 Mivec. Power was brought to 250 hp with a torque of 329 Nm and the top speed raised up to 200 Km/h, with reduced consumptions and emissions: from 14,2 to 13,5 litres for 100 Km consumtions, from 339 to 324 g/km emissions. The 3.8 litres V6 Pajero is available only with an authomatic 5-speed gear box, while the 3.2 Di-D can feature also a manual 5-speed transmission. ON THE ROAD It is dump and rainy on Les Comes, the place where Mitsubishi is organizing the new Pajero’s test drive. Therefore the two paths are still harder and tough, in this way new Pajer’s qualities can be better stressed. The steering wheel does not flutter, the front view is excellent, thanks to the short front. The engine’s answer to sudden jumps is perfect. Moreover, even when ASTC (Active Stability Traction Control) is off, Pajero gives to the driver a feeling of safety, as it shows to be able to surpass even harder and higher disturbs. Pajero shows high performances even on very tough roads, even thanks to the exceptional performances of the integral traction. The steering wheel is very soft. In general, the first impression of this Pajero is great: a paceful but strong vehicle which does not fear anything.
