Big news are coming from East. Launched in 2003, Mazda2 now decided to get a definitive new look, so different from the past one to become a completely new vehicle. Mazda2 was a protagonist inside the MPV compact cars segment, but now the car turns over a new leaf, and get a brand new livery. In 2002 Mazda6 announced the arrival of the new Zoom-Zoom vehicles generation, and now Mazda2 follows this direction towards the future: this is the first Mazda car get the evoution. Are we daring too much? It is not easy to answer, but what is certain is that new Mazda2 style forgets that particular and functional design of the previous model, to follow a more modern style. A compact car Thanks to its new design, the vehicle gets definately more dashing, with quite a fascinating shape. We can easily notice the grains on the hood which, starting from the radiator grill, cover all the side, to create a brand new dynamic effect as a result. In terms of dimensions, we do not know anything yet. According to latest gossip, the cra is supposed to be littler, about 3.80 metres long and one meter and a half high. Interaxe is said to stay the same, while the car is said do be wider too, 1.7 meters: enhanced comfort is guaranteed for all passengers. Powertrain We also heard something about the powertrain. At the beginning, three engines are expected to be available:a 1.3 litres of 75 horsepower, two 1.5 litres of 84 and 103 horsepower. Furthermore, also a gas engine is said to follow later, a gas turbo unit of 1.4 litres. Two engines are available at the launch: a 1.300 cc of 75 and 84 hp, and a 1500 cc of 103 hp. Both engines are characterized by innovative technical solutions, which guarantee reduced consumptions. To put an exemple, the 1.3's conumptions are said to be around 5,4 litres per 100 Km. Anyway, also a turbodiesel version is said to follow in a second moment. It will be a 1400 unit, wich is excpeted to offer high performance and reduced emissions and consumptions. On the road Infomotori.co.uk first tested the 1.5 version, with an horsepower output of 104 hp. Let's start first talking about the interior, which does not seem to be penalized b y the vehicle's compact dimensions. Also the general quality of the cab is very good, even if a bit less than two cars like Opel Corsa and Fiat Grande Punto. Therefore, the main suprise come from the powertrain. The engine is good even at 6000 RPM, with a peinterferes a little bit the feeling, it guarantees an excellent precision on bend. On its whole, the car perfectly satisfies the basic standars required in this specific segment.
